The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released a survey on standardization empowering artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled systems in health care. ANSI seeks feedback from interested stakeholders on related standardization issues, solutions, efforts, and the role of standardization in governance and regulation. Survey responses are requested by July 31, 2020, and the results will be used to inform the discussion at a public-private virtual workshop hosted by ANSI on September 14, 2020. ANSI will provide details for the workshop in the near future.

Standardization and AI-enabled systems in health care
The landscape for standardization and regulation of AI-enabled systems in healthcare is complex and very dynamic. Many stakeholders understand different parts of this landscape, but it is unlikely that anyone possesses full knowledge of it. To create a common understanding, to identify and fill gaps, and to increase awareness and coordination in standards, ANSI will sponsor a virtual workshop focusing on the role of autonomous and intelligent systems standards in medical software and consumer systems that interact with the professional health care sector.
As the coordinator of the U.S. private sector-led system of voluntary standardization, ANSI has initiated a dialogue with stakeholders. ANSI provides a neutral venue for broad and open discussion of standardization issues for emerging technologies and in national priority areas.
Stakeholders are encouraged to share the announcement of the survey with interested parties. Survey responses are requested by July 31, 2020.
