ISO 9001:2015 introduced the concept of taking actions to address risks and opportunities. Included in this new concept was the requirement to evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken to address identified risks and opportunities. It can probably be said that none of these approaches considered a pandemic that would have far reaching implications across the world. Now that the world has been faced with an issue that has affected almost every business industry and type of workforce, organizations are faced with an opportunity to use requirements in ISO 9001:2015 to manage unanticipated risk. This presentation will show an approach for applying the requirements of organizational knowledge to help ensure that information is available that details how to manage unplanned changes. The presenter will also outline the steps that an organization can take to make the actions taken to address risks and opportunities more robust, and review methods to use to maintain the integrity of the quality management system during challenging times.
