Having dealt with this question as an ISO 14001 auditor for decades, I’d usually focus on the requirement to ‘determine’ over the word ‘relevant’. Determine connotes an organizational process, so the auditee’s opinion about climate change (unless she’s a sole proprietor) is not of itself evidence of conformance or nonconformance. Who did what, when, where and why in assessing climate change as an organizational issue are the questions to ask and have answered, as well as how effective do they feel their determination will be in the success of their QMS. For example, have they benchmarked themselves against the public position of their neighbors and competitors on this issue?
