The latest version of the global standard for quality management systems requirements for aviation, space and defense organizations—AS9100: Quality Management Systems—Requirements for Aviation, Space, and Defense Organizations—has been published by SAE International.
The new version of the standard, known as AS9100 Revision D, pertains to all aspects of the aerospace supply chain and original equipment manufacturers.
The international standard specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. It also seeks to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
“AS9100 Revision D integrates an organization’s strategic objectives and business processes by directly linking them to the quality management system, which, when combined with risk-based thinking and the identification of opportunities, enables this revision to provide more value to the organization,” AS9100 Committee chair Alan Daniels said.
The standard has been revised to incorporate the requirements of ISO 9001:2015; consider aviation, space and defense stakeholders’ needs; and incorporate clarifications to the AS9100 series requested by the International Aerospace Quality Group.

Hi Jane, great job on a really insightful article! I’ve been reading about AS9100 Revision D lately, and I think your article has one of the more clear and concise rundowns of the revision. I would appreciate your thoughts on this guide I recently read that gives an introduction to AS9100D and the auditing process for certification: http://bit.ly/2ySTIvQ.
