An international management system standard for the education sector—ISO 21001— has just published. It’s the first standard that focuses on education.
ISO 21001, Educational organizations – Management systems for educational organizations – Requirements with guidance for use, defines the requirements of a management system that will help education providers meet the needs and expectations of their learners and other beneficiaries, and demonstrate greater credibility and results.
ISO 21001 pays particular attention to the interaction between an educational institution, the learner, and other customers. Educators will benefit through delivering a more relevant learning experience that is aligned with the organization’s mission and vision. Learners will benefit even more because the education they receive can be more personalized and suited to their needs—ultimately leading to better learning outcomes.
Through the establishment of a comprehensive set of practices applicable to learning service providers across the board, ISO 21001 is expected to help build a stronger education sector and provide positive flow on effects, which include stimulating innovation and the economy.
